The Process

Character Designs

Once I had a general idea for the story of Puppy Love, I started playing around with character designs. I knew I wanted the boy to be shy, timid and somewhat of a mess. After a few different variations, I tried a hairstyle with lots of curls. I thought it reflected the boy's somewhat unorganized personality pretty well and soon after I came to my final design. 

The dog's design took a little longer to crack. I knew I wanted something expressive but also something very true to real dogs. After a few very stylized designs, I landed on this funny peanut shape that would become the dog's head. Once I had the head, I figured his body should be thin to reflect the fact that he's a stray.
