The Process

       Character Design

The most obvious thing about these two kids is how different they are. Rudy is an agitator, while Whittaker is the silent genius. Since I knew this from the story's conception, I thought a lot about the shapes I could use to reflect this in their design.

Rudy's head is square, but he's also made up of triangles to reflect his somewhat hazardous personality. That being said, Rudy is still just a kid, so the points and angles on Rudy are rounded as opposed to sharp.

Whittaker on the other hand is very round. His actions and expressions are limited. Whittaker is innocent, but still capable nonetheless. You can see this in his eyes, which is the only thing somewhat threatening about him.

In both the expressions and poses, I wanted to show that these characters contrast heavily.
